Cook Community Awards

The Cook Community Awards, held annually in the Cook Electorate of New South Wales, Australia, celebrate the exceptional volunteer service of local residents. Named after the federal electoral division established in 1906 to honour Captain James Cook, these awards recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to the community across various sectors. Cook Community Awards have been presented to four members of our garden, namely Valda Patterson (2020), Ann Barber (2021), Bill Lewis (2022) and Miriam Sipila (2026). Congratulations – well done!

Open Day

Our 2026 open day was held on Saturday 28 March in conjunction with the Sydney Edible Garden Trail. The main aims of the open day were to attract new members and to raise our profile in the community. We had stalls by the Illawarra Beekeepers and both the Caringbah and Engadine Garden clubs. We sold jams, pickles, preserves, plants, seedlings and baked goods as well as sausage sandwiches and drinks. We made a profit of $1230. The weather was perfect, but attendance was down compared to our last open day.

10th Anniversary Celebrations

The MCG held its 10th birthday celebration at the garden on Sunday 15th March 2020. Many people said how much they enjoyed the day, particularly the yummy lunch. We were lucky with the weather which enabled the high school music groups to perform outside near the garden. Both the Kirrawee High Year 10 Combo and the Caringbah High Jazz Combo performed brilliantly. Some photos follow:
